Director of Development, Server Products-Waltham
Job Description Lead a team of software engineers responsible for the development and support of our Server products, including our document and email product lines. Working with the team, develop project schedules and milestones, estimating and assigning tasks to team members. Understand our business opportunity and market and be able to make roadmap recommendations for the Server products. Maintain and drive technical milestones, and coordinate deliverables with other groups, including QA, documentation, product management, support, services, and project management. Understand customer and deployment needs and respond and drive resolution to requests and issues.
Responsibilities * Establishes short- and mid-term work plans and optimizes resources to ensure that work objectives (e.g. productivity, quality, costs) are consistently met. Set expectations and goals for individual staff members * Hires, coaches, and manages the development staff and communicates issues and progress to management as needed. Align staff according to skill set and experience to support delivery team goals * Strong cross-functional integration skills with other teams, e.g. QA, PM * Evaluates and recommends new technology and procedures for systems development to minimize system development costs, improve productivity, and enhance the system operation * Organizational development skills to continuously build & improve the software organization * Operate as a team member and foster a unified team environment * Manage issues resolution. Understand the impact of problems/solutions * Create and maintain a development process that enables high productivity * Work with Outsource Manager to leverage 3rd party resources as part of the core team delivering product
Experience and Education
--5+ years success in software development management, including people management and product delivery
--Has built a high performing team of engineers in past and has retained, mentored, challenged his/her team
--Knows how to build and deploy superb software on time
--Can be an invaluable resource in problem-solving, design expertise
--Expert in one or more of the following: .Net/C# technologies; offshoring; enterprise software; email/security products, iterative development process
--Is able to work with strong peers across functions to work product release scenarios into the roadmap process * The ideal candidate must have a minimum of 10 years software development experience, in addition a minimum of 5 years of software management experience * 3 + years VB6, .NET, SQL Server, XML, XSLT, JavaScript & HTML coding experience * Familiar with diverse, complex problems and adept at devising reasonable solutions or ample alternatives * Strong written and oral communication skills including proven success in working with stakeholders with a wide range of technical knowledge * Proven software development project management skills, including ability to prioritize among multiple concurrent projects, scheduling, and tracking * Proven success in delivering quality software projects on time, on budget, and within scope * Proven experience translating Business Requirements into solutions * Technical leader and coach, aware of applicability of new technologies
